The Acupuncturist has practised this system of medicine and art in China for over two thousand years. Acupuncture is part of the traditional Chinese system of medicine which includes exercise (such as Tai Chi), herbal medicine, massage and diet. This system of medicine sees man as an integral part of nature and recognises health to be a state of harmony within ourselves, not only in our physical body, but also in our mind and spirit. Ill health is seen as an imbalance in this harmony brought about through invasion of pathogens from the exterior, climate, lifestyle and emotional or physical trauma.

The acupuncturist uses very fine needles to affect lines of energy, called meridians, which run beneath the surface of the skin. Points along the meridians are needled to bring about changes in the energy balance of the body in order to restore health. Moxibustion may also be used to supplement the acupuncture treatment. Moxibustion is the stimulation of energy by the use of burning herbs to warm the meridians or points.
